Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of genevatourism.org. Reading the site means accepting them. They are short, and they are mostly about one thing: what a travel guide can and cannot promise you.

01 — What this site is

Geneva Tourism Guide is an independent publication offering research and opinion about visiting Geneva. It is not a travel agency, a tour operator, a booking platform or an official tourism body, and it has no affiliation with Geneva Tourisme, the City or Canton of Geneva, Genève Aéroport, TPG, SBB, or any hotel, restaurant or attraction mentioned on the site. We take no bookings, hold no money, and are not a party to any arrangement you make with a business you found here.

02 — Prices, times and the shelf life of facts

Travel information decays. We quote fares, admission prices and opening hours in Swiss francs, from the operator’s or venue’s own published information, on the date the page was written or last revised — and Geneva’s museums, transport operators and restaurants change all of those without consulting us.

Treat every number on this site as a well-researched indication rather than a quotation. Before you commit money or turn up somewhere, confirm the detail with the business or operator directly. This matters most for seasonal things: mountain lifts and lake boats that run to summer timetables, museum closing days, the shorter winter hours at the Bains des Paquis, and the Swiss habit of shutting almost everything on Sunday.

03 — Getting outdoors, and getting it wrong

Some of what we write about carries real physical risk, and no guide can manage that for you. Lake Geneva is cold enough to cause cold-water shock well into June. The Rhône runs fast at La Jonction and drowns people most years. Day trips from the city put you on genuine alpine terrain around Chamonix, the Salève and the Jura, where weather turns quickly and a summer forecast in the city says nothing useful about conditions at altitude.

Our descriptions of walks, swims, viewpoints and mountain excursions are not risk assessments, and they are not a substitute for current conditions, local signage, a forecast from MeteoSwiss, or your own judgement about your fitness and experience. You take part in these activities at your own risk.

04 — Crossing into France

Geneva is surrounded by France, and a lot of our practical advice involves crossing that border — the airport’s French sector, hotels in Ferney-Voltaire and Annemasse, the Léman Express, day trips to Annecy, Chamonix and Évian. Whether you may cross, what you may carry, what you must declare and what your phone will cost you on the other side depend on your nationality, your goods and your contract. Those are your responsibility. Immigration and customs rules change, and the authoritative answer always comes from the Swiss and French authorities, not from us.

05 — No warranty, and the limits of our liability

The site is provided as it is. We put real effort into accuracy, but we do not warrant that everything here is complete, current or error-free, and we do not guarantee the site will always be available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from decisions you make on the strength of it — a missed train, a closed museum, a disappointing meal, a booking that went wrong. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

We link out to transport operators, museums, restaurants and official sources because that is where the authoritative version lives. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

The site is funded by display advertising. Advertisements are selected and served by third parties and are not endorsements by us; we do not vet advertisers, and an ad appearing beside a guide says nothing about what that guide recommends. Editorial recommendations on this site are never paid for.

07 — Our content, and using it

The text on this site is our own work and is protected by copyright. Photographs are used under the licences of the sources they come from. You are welcome to quote a short passage with a link back to the page it came from — that is normal and we appreciate it. Republishing whole guides, or reproducing substantial parts of the site elsewhere, requires our written permission. Ask through the contact page; we usually say yes to reasonable requests.

08 — Changes

We may revise these terms as the site changes. The current version is always the one on this page, with the date below.
